The Konpira Maru journey continued this week with Alastair’s visit to gods country, Mooloolaba. After cricket lessons, past and present, were dealt by Sam’s dad Barry, we ventured down to Jilly Wines.
Run by good mate and local legend Jared Dixon (aka Struggle) in Clunes, NSW and home of Konpira Maru Northern HQ this year, we bottled our northern drops (blend of Wally Lewis and a touch of class) Codename: Flawless Victory Shiraz/Tempranillo/Nebbiolo/Semillon and Admiral Adama Semillon. Both really exciting examples of what this part of the world can bring to the table and regions we are looking forward to working within for years to come.
The Northern Semillon which is super spicy, clean but with a skinsy savouriness is the perfect counterpoint to our Victorian Semillon, Admiral Akbar which is clean and refreshing. The red blend has length, driven by the fine tannins of the Nebbiolo and the natural acidity of the high elevation site Topper’s Mountain in New England.
Exciting times and as always, was assisted ably by XXXX Gold and little to no humour.
